By TSC Staff

01/03/2002 11:47 AM EST

The yen rose off a three-year low against the greenback as traders guessed that officials in Japan might step in to stop the currency from continuing to slide against its major world counterparts.

The yen climbed to 131.67 against the dollar from 132.13 Wednesday. The euro slipped to 118.62 yen from 119.37 in the prior session.

The euro fell to 90.09 cents from 90.33, and the British pound dropped to $1.4419 from $1.4455.
